What is PBIS?
PBIS is Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.  It focuses on improving a school's ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.  Here at KES we use SMART Cents (white tickets) and SMART Bucks (blue tickets) as a positive behavior recognition to encourage our students to consistently demonstrate KES core values:  being safe, being responsible, and being respectful.

White Ticket, Blue Ticket, 1 Ticket, 2 Tickets!
Does your child tell you about the tickets they are earning at school?  The SMART Bucks (blue tickets) recognize classrooms who show positive behaviors and are combined at assemblies.  Our goal is to fill our blue ticket tower and earn a whole school reward each trimester.  This trimester we are working towards a whole school movie day!  The SMART Cents (white tickets) recognize students who show positive behaviors and are turned in for specific prizes.  In addition, students can also turn in tickets to our fish (located outside the office) for a chance at monthly prize drawings.  Keep encouraging your child to show those positive behaviors and earn those tickets! Here is a link to the reward menu listing the prizes available.

Monthly Assemblies
As a part of the assemblies we have been having monthly drawings for special prizes such as Brewer bobble heads & Brewer jerseys.  These items were graciously donated to our school and have been a popular ticket item.  We are looking for donations for more prizes!  If you or your employer would be willing to contribute unused items or cash donations please drop them off in the KES office.  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Heipp.

Bucket Fillers
Are you a bucket filler?  Students are familiar with the term “Bucket Filler” because of the book Have You Filled A Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud.  You can view the story here if you haven’t heard it before.  The message of this book promotes positive interactions with people you meet.  Students at KES can be bucket fillers for teachers by putting their name in for the Super Staff Award.  There is a weekly drawing of 2 staff members that promote respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors as seen by students.  Let your child know when he/she has done something to fill your bucket!

Have you touched base with your child’s teacher lately?  Conferences are a great time to find out about the progress your child is making.  We have some tips to help your conferences run smoothly here.

Dealing With Anger

Are you looking for a way to help your child deal with anger?   Everyone gets angry now and then but often parents ask what they can do to help their child manage their anger at home or school.  Teaching your child how to recognize when they are getting angry is the first step (how does their body feel).  Then it is important to go over some strategies when they are calm.  Try some of these simple ideas.  You will be surprised how well they work!
