Tom Karnes, high school Math and Physics teacher at Valley Oaks Charter School, is the winner of the Spring 2014 Kern CUE Technology Grant!  Here is a brief description of what Tom plans to do with the grant.

Algebra Now and Later

Using the DragonBox 12+ application, students in PreAlgebra will develop an intuitive understanding of algebraic concepts and skills. Using DragonBox 12+ under a DragonBox EDU license will allow each student to have a username and password that they will be able to use on multiple devices at home, at school, or in the community. The DragonBox EDU license allows the teacher to monitor use and progress of each student. Two refurbished iPad minis will be purchased to check out to students who may need a device. In the first year of use, licenses would be purchased for all PreAlgebra students (whether 7th-10th grade) and Algebra 1 students (whether 7th-12th grade). After the first year, licenses will be purchased for PreAlgebra students.

CONGRATULATIONS, TOM!!!
