Funding: NIH/NICHD 2 R01 HD023412-21

Time Period: 04/15/11-03/31/16

This trial will involve hospitalized HIV-1 infected children who are randomized to either emergent ART (<48 hours) versus ART within 10-14 days, in order to determine the potential benefit of emergent initiation of ART in the context of a severe co-infection.  This study will compare incidence mortality, IRIS and drug toxicity between arms and will determine co-factors for these outcomes.

Dr. Benki-Nugent is a co-investigator on this study and has a lead role in study design, coordination, and implementation.
