Spring Fruita Adventure (Mountain Biking and Canyoneering)

Dates: April 27-29, 2018

Description: This will be a two-night trip to Fruita, Colorado. We will leave Kent Denver on Friday, April 27, after school. We will be mountain biking and exploring on Saturday and canyoneering on Sunday morning. We will be camping both nights in Highline State Park. We will be returning to Kent Denver by 6pm on Sunday.

Canyoneering: We will be completing the "Lemon Squeezer" offered by Colorado Alpine & Desert Adventures. This includes a 100-foot rappel and some guided canyoneering through Colorado National Monument. Here is a recent article on this adventure.

Mountain Biking: We will be mountain biking on the trails in Highline State Park near the campsite. Students will always be under the guidance of a Kent Denver faculty member with mountain biking experience.

Cost: There is a $75 cost associated with this trip. This is mostly to cover the guides on the Lemon Squeezer. However, there is financial aid available if you need it -- just talk to Mr. Bosick or Mr. Simmons.

Equipment Needed: Students will need to bring their own mountain bike on this trip; we will be transporting them out to Fruita. All mountain bikes brought on this trip should be of good quality and regularly maintained. Mountain bikes must be in a ready-to-ride condition when they are brought to school for the trip. If you are unsure of the condition of your bike, please have it serviced prior to coming on the trip. All of the faculty on the trip will be able to provide emergency trail maintenance, but they will not have the tools or equipment needed to provide more general maintenance. If you have any questions about the condition of  your mountain bike, please feel free to ask Mr. Bosick or Mr. Simmons.

You could also rent a mountain bike for the trip if that works better. Check out a local bike shop for rates and availability. Kent Denver will not be renting bikes for students.

All group gear (stoves, tents, eating utensils, etc.) will be provided by the school. Students will only need to bring a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, clothes and footwear. The school has some sleeping bags and sleeping pads if those are needed. A complete packing list will be provided before the trip.

Enrollment Information:
The enrollment form will be posted just after spring break.
