Student Resources

Math--Mrs. Williams

Whether you love or hate math coming in, I'm hoping to help you grow beyond your own expectations! This year, students will explore mathematical topics via a mixture of concrete models like number lines, real world problems, class discussions, online videos, journaling, games, and practice. We focus on developing number sense of rational numbers- comparing integers, fractions, decimals, and percents- through the use of number talks. You'll discover the power and flexibility of mental math and estimation strategies to solve problems in many different ways, not just memorize the standard rules! Students dive into geometric, statistical, and algebraic concepts to lay the foundation for understanding the world around us (physics) and making it better (engineering). I'm so excited to share my passion for math with you this year! Hopefully you will learn to love it, too!

Science--Ms. Hanson

We will explore the world of physical science.  Student engagement is at an all time high as they discover new findings and experimental outcomes that they never thought were possible. This class is all about hands on experiments for students to understand the physics of science.  Please check our classroom website for information about the class, upcoming assignments, notes from class, and practice quizzes.  I look forward to our journey this year!

English--Mrs. Pearson

In 6th grade, students will demonstrate mastery in communicating effectively when writing, speaking, and listening. The course will teach
several types of writing using the writing process and the Write Traits model. Parts of speech, punctuation, and capitalization will also be focused on during the course. Differentiated English instruction will be provided for students with high scores on the MAP test in reading and/or language. Students who demonstrate the motivation and work ethic to move at a faster pace will be challenged through differentiation. A word study component and advanced spelling curriculum will also be incorporated for these students.
