The KCHS Robotics team
meets every Wednesday and Thursday Morning
All students in Grades 6-8 are welcome to participate in this before school activity. In addition to learning to work with robots, we study other technology and have a lot of fun.
FIRST - An acronym: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is a non-profit organization which designs innovative programs to motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math while building self-confidence, knowledge and life skills.
LEGO - We use Lego EV3 Robots and Mindstorm Software to design, build, test and program robots. We use our math skills to determine how to get the robot to navigate mazes using rotations, degrees and distance. Students create attachments for the robots to enable them to perform the missions with the 'arms' controlled with the programming. Some students gravitate to the programming, some to the building, but all have a part in the success of the KCHS robotics team.
LEAGUE - Gracious Professionalism is promoted as a big part of FLL. It's a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. It is an attitude of coopertition (unqualified kindness and respect in the face of fierce competition).
