The University Senate is the principal agency for the formulation of Kean University policy. The Senate and its committees communicate recommendations to the President on such matters as faculty affairs, curriculum, instruction, student affairs, finances and other matters relevant to the welfare of Kean University.

We hope that this site will serve as a resource to members of the Kean University community who are interested in learning about policies passed by the Senate; the members of the Senate; and the operation of the Senate and its committees.

  • University Senate (2/9/2016) Meeting Cancellation The University Senate has amended its Spring 2016 schedule, cancelling the Tuesday, February 9th, Full Senate meeting. We encourage the community to join us at the following commemorative program:Remembering The Dream: MLK at Kean, 1961History came to Kean University (then called Newark State Teachers College) on Feb. 9, 1961, when civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited the Union campus and gave a speech entitled, “The Future of Integration” at the D’Angola Gymnasium. Fifty-five years to the day later, the Kean community will return to the gym to commemorate that event and honor Dr. King’s legacy.A ceremony will be held in the D’Angola Gym Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m ...

To all Deans, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, EDs, and Chairs:The following resolution was passed unanimously on Dec 1, 2015, by the University Senate regarding peer evaluation of online courses.It is the position of the University Senate that faculty evaluations and teaching observations should follow the same Letter of Agreement procedures regardless of the course modality (online, hybrid, or face-to-face).Sincerely,David JoinerChair, University Senate
