March 19, 2020 - Austin ISD released new FAQs.

March 16, 2020 - The Texas Education Agency announces that Spring 2020 STAAR testing is cancelled. Dr. Cruz announces that Austin ISD schools will be closed through April 3, 2020. Staff will continue to be paid during the closure and can expect to return with modified work assignments starting on Monday, 3/23/2020.

March 13, 2020 - Kealing will post Kealing-specific information here, on Facebook, and via Twitter as needed so stay tuned. Kealing Magnet Admissions Decisions will still go out today and more Kealing-specific information is to come!

Read below to stay updated on the Kealing parent organization redesign process. New information will be added to this announcement as it is available.

February 11, 2020:
A video was sent to parents
with important information about Kealing parent organizations. The video is below. For language translation, click on the video and choose "CC" to turn on the subtitles at the bottom right of the video. Then choose the settings wheel to auto-translate the subtitles to your chosen language.

Join us on at 7:30 am on February 27 or 6:00 pm on March 3 for a brief presentation on next steps, answers to some common questions, and an opportunity to give feedback and ask additional questions.

2nd Semester Elective Changes - Available Now!

Students who would like to request a single semester elective course change are required to complete the form which can be picked up in the Program Office. After completing and signing the form, students should return it to the program office no later than 3:00 pm on January 10, 2020. Students are encouraged to return the forms earlier if possible so that we can start the second semester of smoothly. To view the full list of available courses, please CLICK HERE.


WARNING: Dropping a course may endanger your required credits. Dropping a course such as, a world language, Fine Arts or Physical Education (without a waiver) may be denied. Make sure you are monitoring the necessary eligibility requirements to complete middle school.

Elective Change Requests that will not be approved include (but are not limited to):

  1. The drop request is for a course that was a top 10 choice on the student’s choice sheet.
  2. Changing the course may negatively impact the student’s middle school completion status or track.
  3. The course being requested is full or conflicts with the student’s current course selections. Requested elective changes must be during the same class period!
  4. The requested course is a class previously completed.
  5. The dropped class is a yearlong elective.
  6. The elective change deadline has passed.

November 12, 2019 - Two Hour Delay (Bell Schedule Included)

To ensure the safety of all students, families, and staff, all Austin ISD classes, activities, and operations - including all bus routes - are delayed two hours today, Nov. 12. Kealing Middle School classes will begin at 9:30 am. The bell schedule is below and can be downloaded on the Kealing bell schedule page. The schedule is a biy odd due to the five lunches but will make announcements at each new class passing period letting students know where they should go. At the moment there are no changes to after school events but we will send updates through School Messenger and post online if there are changes later today.

School Picture Retakes - Friday, November 1, 2019

School portraits are in and are being distributed through core science classes. Students who missed having a portrait taken in September or wish to have a retake of their school photo should mark their calendars for portrait retakes THIS FRIDAY, November 1st. Retakes will be taken on the cafeteria stage during ALL LUNCHES. Retake order forms can be found in room 236.

Attention 8th Grade Parents - 1:1 Chromebook Roll-Out

All 8th grade students have the ability to take a Chromebook home starting on October 30, 2019. These 11" convertible Chromebooks, which can function as laptops and tablets, will come with a charger and case. During the week of October 21, all Kealing 8th grade students will participate in lessons focused on managing the new devices and digital citizenship. We encourage parents to read the handbooks below for more detailed information about this new technology.

Consent
For a student to proceed with the Everyone:1 program, a parent or guardian must fill out either the paper consent form found in the handbook or go to the online form within the parent cloud. ​This form must be completed in order for the student to be assigned a Chromebook to be taken home so we ask participating families to submit consent by October 25, 2019. To complete the consent form online, which is preferred, follow the steps below:
  1. Go to my.austinisd.org
  2. Sign into the cloud with the usual log in.
  3. Click the magnify glass and search for “Everyone to one” 
  4. Click the tile and follow the instructions.
Paper consent forms may be returned through Advisory during the week of October 21. Students without signed consent WILL NOT be given Chromebooks.

Student Flu Shot Clinic

Hello Hornet Parents!

The moment you have been patiently waiting for has finally arrived!  The Flu Shot Clinic for students has been scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2019 from 7:30 AM-12:30PM.  Registration is only by paper consent form (there is no online registration). You will find consent forms attached to this posting and students will also be able to obtain a copy from the Program Office starting Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Consent forms must be returned to Mrs. Romero by Friday, November 8, 2019.  If you have any questions regarding the Flu Shot Clinic, please feel free to contact Mrs. Romero at 512-414-2707. 

Girls Basketball Tryouts

Any 7th or 8th grade girls interested in trying out for basketball, tryouts will be held Friday Oct. 18th, Monday Oct 21st and Tues Oct. 22nd from 3-5pm in the Kealing gym. You must have a completed AISD physical packet. Packet can be picked up from a coach or found online, https://www.austinisd.org/athletics/forms
