Principal's Message

Principal Derek Minakami

Welcome to Kaneohe Elementary, a Nationally Recognized Safe and Drug Free School. We are located on the Windward side of O'ahu at the foot of the majestic Ko'olau Mountains overlooking Kāne‘ohe Bay.  Kāne‘ohe Elementary School is a true community school that has deep roots in the neighborhood and history of the area it serves.  The diversity of the population adds to the dynamic and richness of the community where each and every student and family is respected.  "The 5 R's" of Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness, Resiliency and Relationships are more than a concept or ideal.  They are actualized by the students, staff and community and practiced daily.  We are also a school that supports the overall success of our complex as we actively prepare our students for King Intermediate School and Castle High School for on-time graduation and beyond.  This is a vision not only for the Castle Complex, but a part of the Department of Education's Strategic Plan.

The Kāne‘ohe Elementary School faculty and staff work energetically and creatively towards assisting children to meet the AYP benchmarks set by the Department of Education.  Since the onset of AYP benchmarks in reading and math, Kāne‘ohe Elementary has met and even exceeded annual targets set forth by the state and sustained that success over the years.  It is a belief that each and every student is a learner and has the capacity to learn and grow into a productive and global citizen of the 21st century.  In order to achieve this, the school has worked diligently in providing learning opportunities that enrich as well as stretch the students because we believe that a successful student of the future is one that is well-rounded and exposed to many different modalities of learning as well as opportunities to show their individual strengths.

Our Vision
