The study of literature allows us the opportunity to read great stories and poems, study characters and literary devices, and also learn essential truths about human behaviors. Just as importantly, literature allows us to study the mechanics of our Language, and improve upon our communication skills, which we use on a daily basis with our friends, family and co-workers. This course will focus on literary works from America. We will be studying these works to not only read and appreciate the story-telling, but also the language and communication skills of the authors. Reading, Writing, and Critical Analysis skills will be sharpened through the chosen reading and writing assignments, as well as through class group work and discussions.
Students in this class will gain an in-depth understanding of the basic foundations of the government system of the United States of America. The course will provide a background of the American political system including the principles of government, as well as the origins of American government. As you approach graduation, it is my hope that all of my students will become proud, productive and involved citizens of their respective communities.
Advanced Placement courses are taught, by design, as collegiate level courses. Hard, honest work must be put forth at all times. Every student in the class is working towards the same goal: a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP test in May, therefore as a class, we must be willing to work together. Giving and receiving constructive criticism will be necessary throughout the year.
This is my 8th year as a full time teacher at PACHS; I previously served as both a student teacher and substitute teacher here as well. I studied both English and History at Temple University, then completed my Master's Degree in Education at Holy Family University. Teaching is something I enjoy very much, and I always look forward to getting to know my classes better, and to sharing my passion for my subjects with them. I am married and have a 6-year old son who is in 1st grade this year. When I'm not at school, I enjoy cooking, gardening, going to flea markets and yard sales, reading, and spending as much time with my family as I can. I look forward to being in the classroom!
