The Douglas School District 51-1 in Box Elder, SD has a Board Member vacancy due to an unexpired term resignation.  The term for this position runs through the regularly scheduled board meeting in July, 2015.  We hereby invite individuals to submit applications or nominations to the Board by Monday, May 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.  Applications may be picked up in the business office during regular business hours.  The following are the qualifications to become a school board member:

A person is legally qualified to become a member of a school board if he or she is a United States citizen, complies with the provisions of law relating to the registration of voters and is a qualified elector of the district, at least 18 years of age and not otherwise disqualified. 

In accordance with state law, no elective county, municipal, or state officer or holder of any other office whose duties are incompatible or inconsistent with the duties of the school board member will be eligible for such membership.  This includes the elected office of legislator, county commissioner and the municipality. 

 On May 11, 2015 the Douglas School District Board of Education will interview potential appointees in executive session.  The regularly scheduled board meeting starts at 5:00 p.m.  The appointment of the new member will be made by a majority of the Board members immediately following the conclusion of executive session in open session.
