Chorus



Bancroft School Chorus

The Bancroft School Chorus is made up of fourth and fifth grade students.  They meet during school hours on Friday afternoon. This ensemble performs twice a year for the Winter and Spring Concerts. 

High Plain Fourth Grade Chorus

At High Plain, all fourth grade students take part in the Chorus. They meet weekly and sing throughout the school year at a variety of concerts such as Veterans Day Concert, Winter Concert, and June Graduation to name a few. 

High Plain Fifth Grade Chorus

At High Plain, all fifth grade students take part in the Chorus. They meet weekly throughout the school year and also play at a variety of concerts like the fourth grade chorus (Veterans Day Concert, Winter Concert, and June Graduation). 

Drifters at High Plain Elementary School

The Drifters was formed in 2002. It is a select group of fourth and fifth grade students who learn to read music and sing challenging pieces of various genres.  They meet weekly before school. The Drifters perform in a variety of concerts including at Ballardvale Green with the High School marching band, Marland Place, and Windgate nursing home. 

Sanborn School Chorus

The Sanborn School Chorus is a fourth and fifth grade chorus that meets for 45 minutes a week during the school day.  This ensemble works on developing a quality vocal sound while singing a diverse group of songs including folk songs, art songs and pieces by prominent composers from the past and present.  They perform two concerts a year – one in the winter and one in the spring months. 

South Side Singers

South Side Singers is a select fourth and fifth grade vocal ensemble performing children’s choral repertoire from the Renaissance to the Twenty-first Century.  South Side Singers meets 75 minutes per week from September-June. They perform at South School as well as at venues throughout Greater Boston (i.e. MA State House, Faneuil Hall, South Church in Andover, and Old South Church in Boston).  South Side Singers has also performed at the Massachusetts Music Educator’s State Conference and toured in Washington, D.C. during the 2000 school year. 

West Elementary School’s Third and Fourth/Fifth Grade Choruses

West Elementary School has a Third Grade Chorus and a Fourth/Fifth Grade Chorus.  The Third Grade Chorus meets weekly before school for 45 minutes.  This ensemble studies unison pieces, singing games, canons, and partner songs.  The Fourth/Fifth Grade Chorus meets during the school day for 45 minutes and sings treble literature of the highest quality from a variety of genres. 

West Elementary Harmony Chamber Choir

West Elementary Harmony is a select group of auditioned 4th and 5th graders.  They meet after school weekly for 60 minutes.  Students sing treble literature of the highest quality from a variety of styles and genres.  In addition to singing unison pieces, canons, and multi-voice works, students perform creative movement and instrumental accompaniments to enhance their singing.   

Middle School Choruses at Doherty, Wood Hill, and West Middle Schools

Chorus is offered as part of the BOC (Band, Orchestra, Chorus) Block.  It meets twice a week during the school day for 45 minutes.  Students have the opportunity to sing in an ensemble, develop healthy vocal-production, learn to read music, and prepare for performances and to collaborate with the Middle School Orchestra and Band.  Students will sing a wide variety of musical styles including classical, musical theater, folk, and more. 

Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers is an ensemble group of students from West, Wood Hill, and Doherty Middle Schools.  It provides students with the opportunity to sing with like-minded peers from across the district.  Members of Chamber Singers sing a variety of musical repertoire including classical, a cappella, musical theater, and multicultural music. Chambers meets every Tuesday at West Middle School from 4:00-5:00 pm.  They perform in several concerts throughout the year.

Lydian

Lydian is an A Cappella ensemble for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from West, Wood Hill, and Doherty Middle School.  The group provides students with the opportunity to sing with like-minded peers from across the district.  Students in Lydian will sing in the College A Cappella style, meaning mostly pop/rock arrangements in 4-part harmony.   Lydian meets every Wednesday at West Middle School from 4:00-5:00 pm.
