Welcome to the South School English Language Learners (ELL/ESL) Department! Our program design follows state and district recommendations for time allocation, curriculum, assessments, and language development. We have created a warm, interactive setting where students are taught strategies to help them master English as quickly as possible. We focus on developing academic, social, and cultural skills required to be successful students. We are honored to be working with students and their families who bring a wonderful linguistic and cultural perspective to the South learning community.

Currently at South, the ESL team works with over 40 students and families. Our population of English Learners continues to grow every year. Our current native language groups are: Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Haitian/ Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and Urdu.

We encourage families to take an active role in their children's education. The South school community offers many supports for families.  Please feel free to contact the English Language Teachers anytime:
