Mr. Arthur D. Holder


Biography

        Mr. Holder has enjoyed teaching at Judge Memorial Catholic High School since 1994 and formerly taught all four levels of German.  Since 2010 he has been teaching AP Human Geography, a new course initiated for that school year . He has served as Chair of the World Languages Department twice, from 1998-2001 and from 2008 to the present. Mr. Holder formerly coordinated the German American Partnership Program from 1994 until 2015. From 2005-2009 Mr Holder assisted with the Mock Trial Team, attending the National Mock Trial Competitions representing the State of Utah in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

        Mr. Holder earned his B.A. and M.A. in German from The University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University. As a graduate student in German, he received a fellowship from Deutscher Akademischer Austausdienst to study at the Universität Heidelberg. While teaching at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, The U.S. Department of Education selected Mr. Holder to be an exchange teacher at a Gymnasium (high school) in Winterthur, Switzerland, for the academic year 1978–1979.

        Mr. Holder is especially proud of the German American Partnership Program (GAPP) implemented upon his arrival at Judge. In even years, Judge students traveled to Chemnitz, Germany, to live with German host families and attend classes at the local high school. In odd years, German students traveled to Utah to attend classes at Judge.

        In his free time, Mr. Holder enjoys reading, listening to NPR, doing crossword puzzles, and attending the theater and opera. He is an avid history buff and for three years worked for the Boston National Historical Park giving interpretive tours of the Freedom Trail.
