The JSU Department of Music offers high-caliber programs for students seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree in Music or Music Education, as well as those who would like to pursue a minor in Music. The JSU School of Fine and Performing Arts is within the College of Liberal Arts. As a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the Department is comprised of a deeply committed community of performers, educators and scholars, dedicated to enriching the academic journey and musical training of JSU students.
Epitomized by small class size and a high faculty-to-student ratio, our students have the rare opportunity to interact closely with a seasoned scholar-performers who have trained at such esteemed institutions as Julliard, the Eastman School of Music, the Peabody Conservatory, Duquesne University, and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music
Classes take place in the conveniently located Fredrick D. Hall Music Center, employing a cutting-edge curriculum that emphasizes music performance and collaboration. Students have access to performance halls, individual practice rooms, classrooms, and labs. Labs are equipped with state-of-the-art computer music technology, including MIDI, Finale, Sibelius, ProTools, and Sonar software programs, and Yamaha, Korg, and Roland Keyboards.
