I am starting my sixth year at South Hills Middle School, and I am very excited to be here. South Hills has amazing students, parents, faculty, and school community. Prior to working in Jordan School District, I was employed for several years in Salt Lake School District. I love and appreciate the enthusiasm, energy, and creativity of middle school students. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, attending music and art events, and riding my bike.

My goal is to help every student maximize his or her personal, social, and academic progress, through a comprehensive, developmental approach to school counseling, while working with parents, teachers, administrators, and members of the community to provide the healthiest, most enriching school environment possible.

I look forward to getting to know and continuing to work with many of you this year.

Julie Walker Counselor julie.walker@jordandistrict.org Last Names H-O

Hi, my name is Julie Walker. This is my fourth year at South Hills
Middle School. I was raised in Utah and received my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at BYU. I worked for a time as a case manager for the Office of Family Support managing food stamps, AFDC, and Medicaid cases, but in my heart I knew that I wanted to work with students. Twenty years and four children later, I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. When I am not at the school or shuttling my children to their various activities, I love to read, knit, visit with friends, and go to DISNEYLAND!!!!. My dream is to travel and see the world.

I love working with students and helping them in any way that I can to
make sure they have a positive experience at school. Middle school age students are my favorite. I hope that I can help them in some small way reach their full potential academically, socially, and personally. And also provide them with a “soft place to land” here at school.

Hello... My name is Valerie Olson.  I am very fortunate to start my counseling career at South Hills Middle School.  I am a Utah native who enjoys hiking, symphony music, and anything related to the beach. I realize Utah is 700 miles from the Pacific Coast, but I still love the ocean.  I earned my master's degree from the University of Phoenix and my bachelor's degree from the University of Utah. Items on my bucket list include a visit to Paris, France and a zip line adventure in the Caribbean.  Middle school students are my favorite to be around. Their ideas, energy, and outlook are amazingly unique and I look forward to working with them at school.  I love the quote “Nothing happens if not first a dream,” and I like to use the power of this statement as I work with students.  When I am not at school I am a mom to 4 teenage sons who provide much joy and excitement in my life.  I also have a Yorkie dog named Duncan who, by all accounts, thinks he is human.  Life is remarkable and I am excited to get started with the 2015-2016 school year.
