What are standards?
Standards spell out what students are expected to know and be able to do in each grade and each subject. The Arkansas Department of Education creates and adopts standards for Arkansas schools. These standards become the basis for the what (but not how) teachers teach and what is on state standardized tests that students take. Arkansas schools use the Common Core State Standards for Math, and these are currently under review.

 What is curriculum?
Curriculum includes all the materials (print and digital), resources, discussions, activities, and tasks students experience as teachers lead them to engage with, develop understanding of, and show mastery of standards. Rigor in math means students develop conceptual understanding, fact and procedures fluency, and real life applications with equal intensity.
