Library & Resource Centre

The school library is central to learning and plays a key role as a place for encouraging innovation, curiosity, and problem solving.  The library is a catalyst for literacy and reading and for teaching and scaffolding inquiry learning.  Our Library makes a difference to students' understanding and achievement and provides support for teaching and learning throughout the school.  It is an important part of the school community and reflects and welcomes this community as it plays a key role in the cultural and social life of the school.  It can be a central point for engagement with all kinds of reading, cultural activities, access to information, knowledge building, deep thinking and lively discussion.
 
 
The library provides a model for inquiry learning and building knowledge and confidence in seeking and processing information and is pivotal to developing 21st century learners.  It is a fundamental resource for supporting students' learning, and a key support for teaching staff.  Not only does it reflect and encourages collaborative learning and sharing of ideas it is a place for learning and thinking by playing a key role in supporting and developing enjoyment or reading and multiple literacies.
 

  The library reflects students’ identities through ensuring that the languages and cultures of the school community are an integral part of the library’s collection, services, and environment.

 

 

The Library is well stocked and well organised offering an array of books both fiction and non-fiction, Kindles and other IT equipment in the form of netbooks, tablets, cameras etc. and there is always someone on hand to help.
 
 
 
The ability to read is vital it paves the way to success in school, which can build self-confidence and motivates you to set high expectations for life. 
 People read for many reasons:
 
  • for pleasure and interest
  • for academic success
  • for work
  • for information that assists good decision making
  • for understanding directions (such as those on street signs and recipe books)
  • for keeping in tough with family and friends and for understanding the world we live in
