Well, we made it to Fall break:)

A big thank you to the Salchow family for hosting our first parent potluck. The potluck was a big success. The company was fun and the food was delicious.

Also, a big thank you to everyone for making it to our first parent/teacher conferences. Yes the days are long for me, but very helpful. I hope to keep up a good line of communication between home and school.

We had our E2 play today and we had a very large audience. Thanks to all of you who were able to attain today's performance. The students did a fine job. On that note, many of the E1 students were given a play part today about the first Thanksgiving. The date of the performance will be sent at a later date. Please make sure your child studies his/her part. The students not receiving a part, will definitely receive one in our next play.

Please be aware that the month of November has many free school days for the students. The first one being Monday, November 5th. The list is below.

Thank you to everyone who was able to return the folder letter with signature as well as the empty folder. I look forward to receiving the rest after our Fall break.

Tonight is our parent potluck. A big thank you again to the Salchow family for hosting our event.

Also, a big thank you to Lars for sending out the school picture link. There are still two students who have not turned in their papers. Like Lars mentioned, it would be nice to have every student in our class photo.

Remember to pack library books on  Sunday evenings.  Library instruction is on Mondays.

Homework chart:  Each child has been given a homework chart.  I will stamp the chart daily when your child has completed their homework.  If your child has completed their homework for the entire week, then they will receive a stamp for Friday Fun.  If your child has not completed all their assignments, a signature is required in the Friday Fun square. Please check this chart on a weekly basis.

When will I see my child’s daily work:   Your child’s graded work from all subjects taught by me will be sent home in a homemade folder after each Math unit and/or Social Studies unit (approximately every 6 to 8 weeks)During fourth your child's grades will be available through an online program called "learnboost". Each child will receive an access code at the beginning of fourth grade in order to log-in.

Through third grade JFKS uses a checklist after each semester to inform you of your child's progress.  However, starting in 4th grade a number system is in effect.  Below I have included a brief breakdown of our grading system to help you have a better understanding of your child's progress.  During third grade I will use grades periodically to help prepare the students for fourth grade.

1: 100 to 96; 2: 95 to 80; 3: 79 to 60; 4: 59 to 45; 5: 44 to 16; 6: 15 to 0
