Field trip costs will be €3,50 per child. Fortunately, we have money in our class fund that will help support our upcoming trips.

Just a short reminder to those students that still need to attend the bike school three times in order to retake or pass the practical bike test.

Recently the students were asked who their homeroom teachers were prior to third grade. This is one of the many factors considered when reshuffling our present fourth grade homerooms for fifth grade (all American homeroom teachers would mean a German homeroom for fifth). Of course there are other factors involved as well. The tentative reshuffling has already occurred. Unfortunately, at this time all the fifth grade teachers have not been assigned. We were told to reshuffle using three American and two German teachers; however, it was reiterated that there may be three German and two American teachers. Needless to say, the process is difficult because of all the special situations that need attention.

We will be having a math test next Friday. Yes I do realize that the Art Show will be taking place on Thursday evening; however, the only homework the students will have between now and then  (one full week) is to study for their math test.

Old News:
Hoping you all were able to enjoy the beautiful weather we had during our recent four day weekend.

We had a great day today making paper and becoming more aware of our paper usage and its effect on our environment. Make sure you ask your child what his/her job is as a paper conservationist officer. Also a big thank you to Luca, Francesca, Brooke, Nils, Frieda, Sylvia, Luisa, Ayden and Lennard for staying after school to help Herr Offer return all his supplies back to his car.

Not much to report on this week except that a few students still have not shown me their May book report book.

Remember to pack library books on  Sunday evenings.  Library instruction is on Mondays.

Homework chart:  Each child has been given a homework chart.  I will stamp the chart daily when your child has completed their homework.  If your child has completed their homework for the entire week, then they will receive a stamp for Friday Fun.  If your child has not completed all their assignments, a signature is required in the Friday Fun square. Please check this chart on a weekly basis.

When will I see my child’s daily work:   Your child’s graded work from all subjects taught by me will be sent home in a homemade folder after each Math unit and/or Social Studies unit (approximately every 6 to 8 weeks)During fourth your child's grades will be available through an online program called "learnboost". Each child will receive an access code at the beginning of fourth grade in order to log-in.

Through third grade JFKS uses a checklist after each semester to inform you of your child's progress.  However, starting in 4th grade a number system is in effect.  Below I have included a brief breakdown of our grading system to help you have a better understanding of your child's progress.  During third grade I will use grades periodically to help prepare the students for fourth grade.

1: 100 to 96; 2: 95 to 80; 3: 79 to 60; 4: 59 to 45; 5: 44 to 16; 6: 15 to 0
