Wheat Ridge High School Instrumental Music

Varsity Letter Requirements 2017-18

These are the requirements for receiving a varsity letter for instrumental music at Wheat Ridge High School. Students will be presented with their letter or service bar at the awards banquet in May. 

Students need to have no outstanding “fair share” with the booster club in order to receive the award. Students cannot have any outstanding fine associated with the instrumental music program through the financial office as well.

Automatic - If the student is selected to be in any of the All County or All State honor ensembles they only need to also meet the part one requirement as well to receive their varsity letter/service bar.

Part One -  Be enrolled in one of the following instrumental music classes for the entire school year; Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Advance Orchestra.

Students must earn a grade of an “A” at the end of the first semester and have earned a grade of “A” by May 1st of the second semester.

 

 

Part Two - Participate in an instrumental music ensemble outside of one of the four above classes. Examples would include;

 

Ø  Enrollment in jazz ensemble for both semesters and earn a grade of “A” at the end of the first semester and have earned a grade of “A” by May 1st of the second semester.

 

Ø  Enrollment in Farmer Pride Band first semester and pit orchestra, winter percussion or winter guard second semester. Students must earn a grade of “A” in Farmer Pride Band and have earned a grade of “A” in winter percussion, winter guard or musical.

 

Ø  Participation in an outside of school musical ensemble from September 1st through May 1st. Examples would include Front Range Youth Orchestra, Colorado Honor Band or Denver Young Artists Orchestra. (Jeff 10 does not count.)

 

Ø  Participation in private lessons on your band/orchestra instrument or on the piano from September 1st through May 1st of the current school year.

 

Ø  Participation in two of the band/orchestra ensembles for both semesters. With a grade of "A" at the end of the first semester and have earned a grade of “A” by May 1st of the second semester.
