5th Grade CMAS schedule

April 3, 4, 5 - 10:00 - 11:30 -  English Language Arts

April 9, 10, 11, 12 - 9:00 - 10:15 - Math

April 17, 18, 19 - 10:15 - 11:45 - Science

Training Day 1 - Friday, February 9th at 1:00pm-3:30pm  

Introduction: the students meet a "Revolutionary War soldier," then a    
Q&A, show-and-tell of period weapons and equipment, music and story-telling.

Training Day 2 – Friday, March 2nd at 1:00pm-3:30pm

[Outfitting/drill] a crew comes with a bus full of uniforms and equipment to set students up with their gear.  While small groups are being outfitted, the rest are working on drills. 

Training Day 3 – Friday, March 9th  at 1:00pm-3:30pm

 [Dress rehearsal, drill, acting and safety] more dress rehearsal, more drills, safety training and acting skills are taught.  Student officers appointed and practice commands of their troops and practice various
maneuvers.

 Day 4 – Revolutionary War Battle all day (exact battle will be determined closer to date) Monday, March 12th AT RALSTON. 

Battle day- get dressed AT RALSTON, start the day with lining up for final inspection, making sure their buttons are buttoned and their hats are on straight.  At this point, the reenactment begins.  The kids will be marching past movie cameras and a drone will be hovering above all, parents who wish to buy a movie, it is optional and is $35 per movie. The kids will form ranks, charge with bayonets [everything is safe, we have never had anyone injured in 26 years], fire cannons and muskets, the kids take hits; have sword fights, etc. etc. We will follow a script and depict a historical Revolutionary battle.

 Jeffco Schools Foundation Costume Shop HOURS: 

Open Mondays and Thursdays only from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

LOCATION: The Costume Shop is located next to 809 Quail Street, Building #1, Lakewood 80215 in a large metal building.


SAVE THE DATES:

1.    Museum field trip will be on Friday, December 15th

2.   Colonial Day (celebrating our survival in the New World) will be on Thursday, November 16th. In-school field trip – a Colonial American historian will come to Ralston

3.   Revolutionary War Reenactment at Ralston will be on Monday, March 12th

4.   Young Ameritowne will be on Wednesday, May 23rd

5.   Last Day of school on Thursday, May 24th will be a 5th grade continuation 


Modified Contact Day is on Wednesday, August 30th. All 5th graders will need to come into their homeroom classroom from 9:30am until 11:00am. At that time, your child will be assessed in reading, writing, and math. The assessments may vary in time completion therefore, please be aware that your child may finish earlier than 11:00am or afterwards. Have your child bring a cell phone to call home or they will be sent to the office to do so.

Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 22nd in ROOM 9

At the Back to School night, we will be presenting information about the happenings in 5th grade! We both are looking forward to sharing information about our year together at the Back to School Night. There will be two sessions with a welcome, from Donna Neill, our school principal, at 5:45pm-6:00pm in the gymnasium.

Please join us for one of the two presentations:

Session 1: 5:00pm to 5:40pm

5:45pm Gym for Mrs. Neill

Session 2: 6:00pm to 6:40pm

Both sessions will be hosted in Mrs. Somers’ room, Room 9. If you are unable to attend Back to School Night, look for the presentation on our website.
