Spring science and social studies tests
If you have a fifth or eighth grader, your student will not be taking the TCAP science test next month. Instead, they will take an online science test in April. Fourth and seventh graders will take a social studies test in April. It’s part of a move to new tests, called Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) that will take the place of TCAP.
In 2009, under the direction of state lawmakers, the State Board of Education approved new Colorado Academic Standards (CAS). Those standards set higher expectations for what students should be able to do and know at each grade level. The goal is to better prepare Colorado students for college and career in our competitive and changing world. In order to measure how schools are meeting the new standards, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) is implementing new tests. For more information, visit the CDE website.

Participate in the Budget Process
Jeffco Public Schools has a long history of gathering community input about funding priorities. As the Board of Education begins the budgeting process for the 2014-15 school year, this tradition will continue. Parents, students, community members and district staff are being asked to read a letter to stakeholders, which describes the board’s goals, and then provide feedback about the budget by completing an online survey. The board will also be hosting a series of community meetings to gain more public participation in the budget process.
The 2014-15 school year budget must be finalized by June 2014.
