See the sidebar for individual teacher websites and the subpages below for more on summer reading, SSR, The Lake, and Yearbook.

All students at SLHS must read a book of their choice over the summer and be prepared to write about and discuss the book during the first week of school.  The list above might get you started, but you are not required to choose off of it.  Happy reading!

If you are taking an Honors, Advanced, or IB course, please check the appropriate pages.

“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.”

“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.”

― J.D. SalingerThe Catcher in the Rye

“Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it.
Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.”
― William Faulkner
“We read to know that we are not alone.”
