Attendance Matters!
Regular attendance is key to your child’s academic success; and while we understand that children do get ill or that a family may have personal matters to tend to, it is important to make sure your child is in school.  The state guideline for attendance states that children should be in school 95% of the school year.   This means that a child should only be absent 9 or less days for the entire year. We also ask that you call the school attendance line when your child will be absent from school -303.982.5700 or online by clicking on the Attendance link above.    Thank you !

I am lost.  Can you find me?
Our lost and found has overfloweth.
Coats, hats, gloves, sweatshirts, shoes, lunchboxes and water bottles are on display in the main hallway.
Hurry, as these items will be donated Friday, March 24th.

Recent Announcements

  • 2017-2018 Classroom Assignment Process

The Shelton Staff works together on developing class assignments for next year.  Student placement is carefully determined based on the educational needs of each child.  As part of this process, we value the input you can provide about your child’s learning needs.  If you have specific educational concerns regarding the type learning or classroom environment your child would do best, please fill out the attached Student Information form. This form must be returned to the front office no later than April 29, 2017 in order for your input to be part of your child’s placement for next year.  Please complete one form for each child. Student Information forms containing requests for a specific teacher by name will not be considered. If a teacher’s name or any other means of identifying a particular teacher is mentioned, the form will not be given to the staff members who will be developing the class lists.

  • Letter from the Principal

    August  19, 2016

     Dear Shelton Families,

I am grateful for such a remarkable 2015-2016 school-year here at Shelton and am excited to start a new one as well!

Shelton is a very fortunate school to have the amazing parent support and community involvement. Because of our parent dedication, Shelton has created many opportunities for students to be successful. Through the silent auction and the PTSA support this last year, we are able to purchase more laptops, chromebooks, and mini iPads. Now all of first grade will be a 1:1 iPad grade level.  Our computer lab has new computers, hence more computers will be available in classrooms. Shelton has a very involved Health and Wellness Committee, Playground Committee, PTSA  and Community Garden Committee. We've begun planning ways improve our playground so it is more kid and environmentally friendly.  In addition, we are hoping to break ground soon on our Community Garden. Also in the works is a new shade structure up by the fall, 2016. Our Watch D.O.G.S. program is thriving and we have many dads, step-dads, grandpas and uncles volunteering their time daily in classrooms and on the playground. Shelton had its second talent show and its first musical in over ten years. Shelton is an amazing school and has so much to offer all students.

Students are why we do what we do every day. Our students are our number one priority. We have many bright, creative, dedicated, compassionate, athletic and talented students here at Shelton.  We know, as Rita Pierson (educator) stated in one of her seminars, "every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be." That's what we strive for at Shelton.  We want to be that champion cheering on your children helping them to be the best they can be. See the video here.

Families are also supporting Shelton every time they shop at King Soopers.  Please continue to use the King Soopers cards as the money we receive helps with computers, materials for students, trainings for teachers, computer licenses for students, etc. If you buy groceries and gas at any King Soopers or Loaf & Jugs, King Soopers will donate 5% of what you spend directly to Shelton. You can participate in this fantastic program and help Shelton meet its fundraising goal of $20,000. Other family members such as grandparents can participate too. Purchase a $5 reloadable gift card from our King Soopers coordinator,Debbie South. The card comes with a $5 balance. You can also download (king_soopers_card_form2__1_.pdf) or pick up an order form at the front desk and return it to Shelton. Our PTSA is actively involved and very supportive of Shelton and we couldn’t be more thankful.

I am looking forward to this school year and my third year as principal. I am also looking forward to getting to know all of our new students and families and having them join  . . . TEAM SHELTON!

Thank you for what you do for our school.  We couldn't do it without your support. Our partnership is invaluable.

    Educationally yours,

     Karen Brown

  • Shelton's Giving Tree

    The Giving Tree

Shelton's PTSA would like to remind families about our Giving Tree.  The Giving Tree is a way to efficiently meet the needs for classroom supplies for our children.  It's a way for parents and caregivers to provide items that will directly benefit their child's education.

The school-wide Giving Tree will display ornaments listing specific items needed in individual classrooms.  Please come pick an ornament from the tree and return the requested item to the happy teacher.  Look for the tree in the hallway between the front office and the gym.  Be sure to come in to see new requests at the beginning of each month.

    Thank you for supporting Shelton!

  • Congratulations to Shelton

Shelton is proud to boast that we won the Governor’s Distinguished Award for the fourth consecutive year!

We were one of twenty-three Jeffco Schools to win this prestigious award.  The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On our school performance framework (SPF) used by the state to evaluate schools, we EXCEEDED expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth.

I am so proud of our teachers for the important work they do every day.  I want to send a thank you to the Shelton Staff. Thank you for everything you have done and will continue to do to create a better future for our students here at Shelton. There is no other profession that so directly shapes the world of tomorrow.

To our students, thank you for your hard work, passion for learning and zest for life.

To our parents, thank you for ensuring your children are reading, writing and working on math at home. You donate your precious time, money and energy to help Shelton be the best it can be and we can’t thank you enough.

    GO TEAM SHELTON!
