Through problem based learning students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem. Students learn critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration strategies as well as content knowledge. PBL provides the “why” for student learning. It is essential to a multidisciplinary approach where students explore solutions to open-ended questions, ones that are authentic. Students can apply and transfer knowledge and skills to develop solutions. This shows true mastery. Our goal is to provide authentic opportunities for students to solve actual problems whether through inquiry, entrepreneurship, the maker movement, STEM, civic innovation... We collaborate in an ongoing effort with our community to provide these opportunities.
