At Leawood, we take pride in being a community driven elementary school!  It is our goal to plan events that bring our community together in ways that enhance our students educational experiences.  Below are descriptions of our current community events.  If you are interested in adding an event/club please contact Jenn Mathews or Matt Langford.

Welcome Back Event: We welcome in the new school year with a fun filled event which in the past has included food, carnival games, karaoke, crazy hair, a cake walk, and even an outdoor movie! Sixth grade students and parents have started a new tradition of organizing this event and putting their own spin on it.  This is a great way to meet new Leawood families, hang out with teachers and staff, and prepare us all for a new school year!

Tea -N- Tissues: Starting school can be a difficult transition for parents and kids.  Or it can be a wonderful celebration.  This first day of school tradition gives parents the opportunity to cry, celebrate, or catch up with other parents over coffee and snacks as our kids head into their first day of school.

Family Book Club: Don’t miss out on this great school tradition. We have three reader levels discussion, craft and snack that quickly fill this hour long adventure. Children and families participate together in this unique opportunity that can last a lifetime.

Veterans Day: Join us for a day of celebrating those who fought and continue to fight for our freedoms.  Students honor Veterans, learn about the different branches of military, and treat our guest Veterans to entertainment and refreshments.

Holiday Workshop: This long standing tradition at Leawood brings together creative minds that work tirelessly to develop and prepare crafts that the community can purchase and make themselves.  This is a great, affordable way for our students to make holiday crafts for their loved ones.
Reflections The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program.

The Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:

  • Unleash their creative talents and be inspired
  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
  • Experience the joy and fun of making art
  • Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art

As an added bonus, in showcasing and celebrating student talent, the Reflections Program increases community awareness of the importance of the arts in education.

Science Fair: March, 20th, open to all ages K-6th. Look for more information to come home around the beginning of January. Put your science brains to work!

Dr. Seuss' Birthday Celebration: Join us for our annual Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast and volunteer to read aloud some Dr. Seuss classics to classes.

Staff Appreciation: We have an amazing staff at Leawood!  Join this team to find fun ways to spoil the staff throughout the year!

Room Parents: Our Room Parents are the main liaison between teachers and parents.  Room parents can help coordinate classroom volunteers, classroom projects, and classroom parties.
