Caldecott and Newbery Book Clubs

Having trouble deciding what book to read? Looking for a challenge? Try becoming a member of the Caldecott or Newbery Book Club.

There are 3 stages of membership-Bronze, Silver and Gold. To be a Bronze member, you need to have read 25 gold medal winners, a Silver member means you have read at least 50 gold medal winners and a Gold level member means you have read 75 or more gold medal books.

If you would like to be a member of either club,  the first thing you need to do is stop by the library to pick up your list of winners for either the Caldecott or Newbery award The next step is to find any book on the list and start reading. The Prospect Valley Library has most of the titles and the Jefferson County Public Library and the Denver Public Library has all the titles. After you read the book, have your parent initial the title on the list. Students should return the form to Mrs. O'Neill in the LMC.

As soon as you have read the Caldecott winners or the Newbery winners to a certain level, have your mom or dad let me know. You will receive a certificate at Hall of Fame and have your picture placed on the Caldecott or Newbery bulletin board. I hope to see many of you participate! Remember, this is A LOT of reading. If it takes several years to complete either or both projects, that is AOK. Happy reading!
