About Us

Miss vonDuhn

This is my second year teaching kindergarten at Parr Elementary School, and I couldn't have picked a better school to call home!  I have many years of experience working with kids of all ages and abilities.  I realize your job as a parent is not an easy one and that no one knows your child better than you, so we must work together to give your child the best possible start in school.  Together we will lay a foundation for a lifetime of learning.  I graduated from Metropolitan State University with a BA in Human Development and a license in Elementary Education.  Before that, I received my cosmetology license from Englewood Beauty College.  While in cosmetology school, I began working in a special needs program.  I loved it so much that I knew being with kids of all ages and abilities is what I wanted to do.  This realization led me to pursue my degree.  While I was attending school, I worked at a special needs preschool and a salon.  After graduation, I began working at Global Down Syndrome Foundation, as well as substituting and continuing working as an esthetician.  Two years ago, I was offered a long term substitute position in kindergarten, and after being with these kiddos for eight weeks, I knew I wanted a kindergarten class of my own!  I plan on continuing to further my education with beginning a masters program this year.  My passions include my family, my dog, teaching, being with people, crafting, listening to country music, being outdoors and enjoying time with family and friends!  I live in Littleton with my yellow lab, Bentley, in a condominium that I bought a few years ago.  I have an older sister who has three boys.  It's amazing how quickly they grow and change, so I make it a priority to spend as much time as possible with them.  My sister and brother-n-law just bought a house about five minutes away from me, and my parents live about ten minutes from me.  My mom was a teacher for 30 years in Douglas County and is now retired, and I will get to use her helping hands in my classroom this year!  I am so excited to meet and get to know each of you and your kids!

I am so excited to begin this year at Parr Elementary, it is a fantastic place for your child to grow and learn. Transitioning to Parr has been an easy and great experience, I already feel at home. I can't wait to get to know your students and work as a team to make kindergarten a life long memory. It is our goal to create life long learners.  I graduated from Western Carolina University with a BSED in social sciences education and a BS in history.  I student taught high school social studies. Also, I am almost finished with my MA in European History.  By this point you are probably asking your self "why is she teaching kindergarten?" There is one simple answer, I fell in love with it. I was a paraprofessional at Red Rocks Elementary for a year in a kindergarten classroom aiding a student with type 1 diabetes and realized I stumbled across my passion. Helping all the students in their daily work was the most fun, interesting, and challenging process I had ever encountered. From then on I was hooked, the sense of wonder and passion that this age group has makes me feel like a 5 year old myself. Teaching kids how to be a student is my favorite part of the kindergarten experience. I continued on as a paraprofessional in 1st grade with the same students and continued to instruct lessons in writing, math, and literacy. Finally, I was offered a job as a kindergarten teacher at Red Rocks, and was elated to have my own classroom! Last year was a blast and I can't wait to start this one at Parr, Miss vonDuhn and I are going to work closely together to grow your students into life long learners, who are ready to problem solve and be independent.  Outside of teaching I find peace in cooking and laughing. I enjoy reading, writing, running, and camping. My husband, Tyler, and I live in Denver and have a cat, Norm. My family lives in North Carolina but we are very close (if you see me talking on the phone its probably with my mom or my nephew who is 3). I am excited to teach your students and begin a new year at an awesome school!
