Clubs and Activities

Oberon Clubs and Activities 2013-2014

 

Board Games Club – Do you want to kick it old school?  Come join us at Board Games Club for a trip back in time to days before computer games and video consoles.  Come play games such as Chess, Monopoly, Life, Sorry, Checkers, Jenga, and many more!  Everyone is invited and all levels are welcome.  Meet Ms. Kochinka, club sponsor, on Thursdays all school year from 2:20-3:00 in room E-2.  No cost for students.

 

Choir Club – All students who love to sing and want an opportunity to help create a community of singers perform in school concerts and in the community are welcome!  Meet Mrs. Murphy, club sponsor, on Tuesdays all school year from 2:20-3:00 in the Choir Room.  No cost for students.

 

Hip Hop/Dance Club – Students can come listen to music, create dance routines or styles, and have fun learning and doing different types of dancing.  Meet Mrs. Grenda, club sponsor, on Tuesdays starting September 18 from 2:20-3:15 in the Small Gym.  No cost for students.

 

Jazz Band – Jazz is considered an advanced music class and is intended to help challenge and provide an in depth study of jazz music.  This includes performing many pieces from the standard jazz repertoire, learning and practicing the many facets of jazz improvisation, studying jazz historically and culturally, becoming familiar with key figures in the evolution of jazz, and listening to key recording of those artists.  Rehearsal will be every Monday and Friday during the Access Block and Lunch (11:10-12:20) with Ms. Watts, club sponsor, beginning on Monday, November 5th.  Students will have the opportunity to eat lunch during this time.  Students will report directly to the instrumental music room with their lunch ready to play.  All students are welcome to join.  No cost for students.

 

Magic, the Gathering Card Club – Anyone and everyone can participate in this club.  Play a card game called magic which includes different “planeswalkers”, colors of magic/”Mana” and planes of a “Multiverse”.  We have extra cards.  Meet Mrs. Grenda, club sponsor, on Mondays starting September 10 from 2:20-3:15 in room E-4.  No cost for students.

 

Mine Craft Club – Do you enjoy playing Mine Craft?  Would you like to join your Oberon friends and play to your heart’s content?  Come to the Computer Lab on Thursdays from 2:30-3:15.  All students who have a Mine Craft account are eligible to participate with a signed parent permission slip.  Please see Mrs. Perry, club sponsor, in the Counseling Center for a permission slip.  No cost for students.

 

Mural Art Club – Do you enjoy painting and would like to come add some color to jazz up the hallways at Oberon?  We will explore various painting techniques and paint an actual mural in the school!  All students interested in art are welcome.  Meet Ms. May, club sponsor, on Mondays beginning September 24 from 2:20-3:15 in the Art Room.  No cost for students.

 

NJHS – All 8th graders with a 3.5 GPA or higher are eligible to participate in this leadership club.  National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) will meet monthly and, at times, weekly on Tuesdays from 2:20-3:00 in S-3.  NJHS is sponsored by Ms. Ryer, Ms. Cavaleri, Ms. Watts and Mrs. Kelly.  Twenty five dollar fee to participate and students will be required to complete 40 hours of community service by mid April.  See teachers for additional information.

 

Bolder Boulder Racers Club – Beginning in February, run on trails around Oberon on Thursdays after school from 2:20-3:15.  Meet Mrs. Mayer, club sponsor, in S-6 with your running shoes.  We run on trails around Oberon after school 1 day per week from February - March.  In April, we run twice a week as we train for the Memorial Day Bolder Boulder.  There are several great running trails around Oberon that we will use.  No cost for students.


Soccer Club - Students have the opportunity to get together and play soccer.  All abilities are welcomed.  Meet Ms. Quinn, club sponsor, on Fridays starting September 21 from 2:15-3:15 on the football field.  No cost for students.


Student Service Club – This club encourages students to help staff and teachers make Oberon a better school for all of us.  Club will meet in Mr. Waalkes’ room (W-1), club sponsor, every Tuesday from 2:30-3:10 starting January 15th.


Weightlifting/Cardio Club – Come join Mrs. Yacobucci, club sponsor, and other Oberon students to learn the proper and safe way to lift weights, work out and be healthy.  This club is free of charge and will meet on Mondays and Fridays from 2:30-3:00 in the weight room (C-6) and cardio room (C-1). 


Yearbook Club – Join Ms. Aguilar, club sponsor, on Thursdays during Access Block and Lunch (11:10-12:20) in the Choir Room.  This is a chance for students to come together and design a fabulous yearbook for the student body.  No cost for students.


Zumba Club – Come join Mrs. Bruemmer, club sponsor, and other Oberon students to learn this unique type of dance while having fun and getting in shape.  This club is free of charge and will meet on Mondays from 2:30-3:15 in the small gym.  Students should wear appropriate clothing to freely move around.
