February and March Parent Volunteers: We love our volunteers! Click here to find a time to come in and help out in our first grade classroom!

Math homework pages: Pages 149-152 due by 2/23. Catch up week will be 2/23-3/2! Take this week to catch up on all pages up through 152, and also start introducing your child to clocks and telling time. Ask them about what time of day school starts, when dinner time is usually around, and when their bedtime is! We still be starting a new unit on time soon!

1st and 2nd grade play: 6:30 on Feb. 22nd in the gym. Meet at school in costume at 6:00PM.

Gem and Mineral Field trip: Feb. 23rd to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds for the Fem and Mineral show. Students must bring a cold lunch!

Jeffco Grading system:
Report cards come home in Friday Folders are March 2nd.
  • 4-Exceeding Standards indicates that the student consistently exceeds grade-level academic standards and expectations
  • 3-Meeting Standards indicates that the student consistently demonstrates grade-level academic standards and expectations
  • 2-Progressing Toward Standard indicates that the student is working toward the grade-level academic standards and expectations, but has not been able to consistently demonstrate the learning
  • 1-Lacking adequate progress toward standard indicates that the student consistently does not demonstrate grade-level academic standards and expectations

*Nightly reading to encourage kids to get involved in books! We want to encourage becoming life-long readers!

Weekly Update

  • Weekly update 2/20-2/23
    Reading:
    * learned new suffix that can go on the end of basewords (ed, ing)
    * learned new trick words "out, about, our"
    * read books that taught us about what life was like when leaders like Washington and Lincoln were alive
    * practiced doing 3-scoop retells with our texts

    Writing:
    * connected our writing to social studies by reading about Washington's life and character traits, and writing about them
    * used our knowledge of opinion writing to help us figure out facts and opinions of US presidents
    * used complete sentences in our writing when answering comprehension questions

    Math:
    * practiced our fact fluency to build our number sense skills
    * spent time from math practicing for our musical

    Social Studies:
    * learned who George Washington was and what made him a leader

    Science intro:
    * Our field trip is an introduction to our next science unit on Earth Materials. We will use what we see and learn on our field trip in March when we start learning more about soil, rocks, minerals, and even gems!
