Science Fair Extra Credit !
Science Fair - this is your only extra notification about Science Fair extra credit. The extra credit points for Tri 2 are split up into 5 point deadlines and there are 5 deadlines. You need: to have an approved Science Fair application and complete the task by each deadline to earn the points. If you turned in an application on time - but you have not corrected your application to get it approved, you will not be able to earn points for the first deadline. Please look at the 2018 Science Fair information tab, there is a LOT of information there. Your Extra Credit - Your Effort to earn the points. Good luck!

Solar Eclipse 2017
On Monday, August 21, students will be indirectly viewing the solar eclipse. A permission slip is needed if students will be using parent-provided eclipse glasses. Click here to find more information about our eclipse event. Thank you, SRMS Science department!

Welcome to 7th Grade Science!

This year in science we will focus on scientific method, mixtures and substances, cells, human body systems, energy, genetics and adaptations of life over time, geologic events through time, plate tectonics, and we will finish the year with forensics.

Our program is rigorous and moves fairly quickly. Students can best be prepared for class if they review each night for at least 15 minutes.  After school help is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:20 p.m.

Supplies needed for class each day: student agenda, 2 pencils, 2 red pens, colored pencils, one highlighter (any color), dry erase marker,  1" 3-ring notebook with loose leaf paper, dividers, and note cards.  Students will earn grades throughout the year for having all of their supplies with them in class.

Parent Portal note: If a student has a missing assignment, "M" will be seen instead of a grade. If an assignment has not been graded yet, the box for the grade will be empty.  Please have students check their grades at least twice a week.

Grading: Students may correct any assignment or quiz to earn a higher score as long as it is turned on time.  Late policy applies to assignments as indicated below.  Corrected work will be accepted until the day before the unit test, and they can be done at home or at school.  Unit tests are worth 100 points and can not be corrected for additional credit.

 Grading scale: 100 - 89.5 = A, 89.4 - 79.5 = B, 79.4 - 69.5 = C, 69.4 - 59.5 = D, <59.4 = F

Late work may be turned in up to 2 days late for 70% credit and until the unit test for 50% credit.

Extra Credit:  Up to 25 points of extra credit can be earned per trimester.  Please refer to the "download" assignments for an explanation of this ongoing extra credit opportunity.  If students participate in the science fair in February, they can earn 50 points extra credit for the 3rd trimester and are not eligible for regular extra credit work during the 3rd trimester.

Students who are absent should check the calendar on this website for the days missed and need to speak to Mrs. Lamb before or after class. They are encouraged to stay after school, for help to get caught up. If students are absent for a lab or classroom activity, they will need to stay after school to make it up. All labs and classroom activities must be made up within 1 week of the assignment.  Help is also available during Access period.

Communication about class activities and homework:  Please refer to the "Agenda / Calendar" tab to the right. Assigned homework is highlighted in red and class handouts can be found by using the "Download assignments" tab, (as long as the handout is not copywrite protected.)

Class Expectations:  For everyone in my classroom:  Safety! Own it! Attitude! Respect!  Also, I don’t give students grades, they earn their grades.

I'm glad that you chose Summit Ridge Middle School and I look forward to teaching our new 7th graders and working alongside their parents to help each student have a fun and successful year.
