McLain Community High School is one of Denver’s most unique educational settings. Multiple programs offer high school students and adults a variety of ways to earn a Jefferson County Public School diploma in one location. Below is a brief description of each of the 5 programs that can take a student to a high school diploma and beyond.
McLain LIVE: This program is designed for 9th and 10th grade students of any age that have 0 - 4 credits. McLain LIVE offers direct instruction in core and elective subjects in an interactive, experiential setting that engages students. Once a student has completed two successful years in LIVE, they transition into one of the other youth programs at McLain.
ACE (Alternative Cooperative Education): This program is for students 16 years and older and is considered a youth program. With a schedule that starts at 8:00 am ACE students can easily access Warren Tech classes in the afternoon. Core subjects are taught through direct instruction four days per week while every Friday is set aside for exploring a wide variety of elective classes.
Achieve: This program is for students 16 years and older and is considered a youth program. With a variety of start times students can easily access Warren Tech classes in the afternoon or in the morning. Core subjects are taught through direct instruction four days per week while every Friday is set aside for exploring a wide variety of elective classes. Achieve also serves teen parents or students that are expecting. These students have access to JCAPPP (Jefferson County Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting Program). JCAPPP offers parenting classes that include labor-delivery and nutrition as well as day-care service from 7:00 am - 4:00 pm which is housed in McLain High School.
CB Adult Program: Students that are 18 years of age or older, in their senior year of high school or did not complete high school, are eligible for McLain’s daytime and nighttime programs.
CB Adult Day Program: Adults who enter the day program must first take complete the Discovery Class. This highly structured introduction class is focused on learning about and developing advanced communication and career ready skills for students. Upon completion of Discovery Class daytime CB students begin take core classes delivered with direct instruction and have one day a week of elective classes.
CB Adult Night Program: Any adult can earn core credits four nights a week in an individualized setting with other adult learners. Students are allowed to attend 2-4 nights per week and earn credits at their own pace.
