Welcome to Mrs. O'Connell's 1st Grade Class!

About me:

I am so excited to have the opportunity to be your child's 1st grade teacher!  This will be my second year teaching at Mount Carbon.  (You may remember me as Miss Brown.  I got married this summer!)  I cannot wait to teach another year with Mount Carbon's strong and caring team!  My educational philosophy is based on the belief that each child is special and will succeed in a safe, nurturing, and academically stimulating environment.

It has been a dream of mine to become a teacher since I was young.  I attended Fort Lewis College In Durango, Colorado to pursue this aspiration.  Shortly after graduating and earning my teaching license, I moved back to my hometown of Los Alamos, New Mexico to begin my career as an elementary school teacher.  I taught 2nd grade there for six years.  During my time there, I earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a Reading concentration from New Mexico Highlands University.  I moved to Littleton in the summer of 2016 to start teaching at Mount Carbon.  I enjoy running, reading, and hiking with my dog.

I am looking forward to a great school year with you and your wonderful children!

Class Promise:
"When we care about each other and our classroom, we share what we have, listen carefully, help each other learn, work hard, and have fun together.  We understand that everyone makes mistakes.  We stand up for ourselves and others, and when someone asks us to stop, we stop.  This is who we are, even when no one is watching." (Promise written by Debbie Miller)
