Roland Smith - (Grades 4-6)
Learn how a zookeeper became a world famous author with award winning author Roland Smith.

Roland Smith lives with his wife Marie on a small farm in Portland, Oregon.  After over 20 years of working in a zoo and writing on the side, he chose to write full time and is the author of books like Peak and the Criptid Hunter Series.  He has won several awards, including the National Outdoor Book Award in 2007 for Peak and the American Library Association's Best Book for Young Adults in 2009 for Elephant Run.

Michelle Barone was 2009 Elementary Principal of the year in Aurora Public Schools. She taught 3rd and 5th grades for 17 years. Michelle wrote many science units, which were published and used by numerous school districts. She received The Presidential Award for Mathematics And Science Teaching and The Chemical Manufacturers Catalyst Award For Excellence In science Teaching in 1996. Her first historical fiction novel for middle grade readers, Out Of the Ordinary with History Compass, LLC, went into a third printing during its first year. Her picture books have been published by Richard C. Owen Publishers, Inc. and Silly Book. Her other articles and stories have appeared in Happiness, Boys' Quest, Hopscotch, Wee Ones E-Magazine, Highlights and Spider. Michelle lives in Denver, Colorado where she enjoys running, playing guitar and writing stories for kids.
