Summer's End

I am so excited to start the new school year! I have been in to school a couple of times to work with Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Arntson, and Ms. Schulz. This is going to be an exciting new adventure for me! It has been four years since I moved to sixth grade and while I loved what I was doing, I knew that it was time for a change. Bell has been a great home in which I have been able to stretch my thinking and maintain my growth mindset as a life long learner and this year will be no exception.

I am looking forward to revamping the reading interventions class and have been working hard to find interesting novels that will engage all readers. I have found some interesting new resources to help make novels come alive for students as we not only practice comprehension strategies, but also learn about some of the topics discussed in core classes in a new way. It is my hope to reignite the love, or at least like, of reading in my students once again and help them on a path to being college and career ready by the time they leave 12th grade.

I am also thrilled to be able to develop the new honors program at Bell! I think this is going to be one wild ride in which I learn a lot about myself as a teacher, but also learn a great deal about what students can do when we personalize instruction to meet their needs and interests. In my ten years of teaching, students have never ceased to amaze me! I look forward to what honors students are able to do. I truly believe they will bring a lot to our school and their peers in the way of learning and exploration.

I hope that you all have a restful couple of weeks and I'll see you on August 15th for Back to School Night!
