Professional Development
This year our focus has been to elevate the Essential Learnings for Math and create a learning progression for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Essential learnings are those benchmark understandings that students should reach in order to be prepared for the next grade level. In much the same way that students unlock the code of reading, students must have number sense to unlock more complex math problems.
Our work this year has helped us to more deeply understand the math outcomes for each grade level and how they impact the next year's learning. We have taken time to understand and develop assessments that help us to understand student progress continuum of math learning K-5 and beyond.
We have deepened our knowledge of the foundational understanding of number sense that all students must achieve in order to gain long term math success. Because of this, we are better able to provide interventions to close learning gaps.
