Google Chrome Web Browser
Installation of the Google Chrome Browser on all district computers will begin Monday, Feb. 6 and is expected to be completed by Friday, Feb. 10. The addition of Google Chrome will provide more reliable web performance ofinstructional web applications, such as Google Docs. The deployment process includes the installation of a district configured business class version of Google Chrome, which is recommended by Google for enterprise networks, such as Jeffco. In addition, a Chrome policy will be applied to manage updates and consistent user interface. Testing has been successfully completed at six schools and more than 60 users in multiple departments at administrative sites. Performance of Google Docs and other Google applications has significantly improved, with users have noted more reliability and reported almost no Google issues with the deployment of Chrome.
Staff members are reminded to continue to use Internet Explorer for core applications, such as Infinite Campus, Encore or PeopleSoft. In addition, please be aware that the Chrome default home page will be set to Jeffco Google Apps and the Chrome desktop icon will be labeled “Jeffco Google Apps.” If Chrome had been previously installed on a computer, when Jeffco Chrome is installed, a new Jeffco Google Apps Desktop icon will be shown on the desktop, and the old Chrome icon will no longer work.
