    Teacher Highlight

If they were playing with real money, these students would be bringing home a lot of bacon! Students from Steve Zimmerer’s senior Economics classes participated this week in the annual high school Stock Market Challenge, held at the University of Denver. Over 50 metro-area high schools participated, and 3 of Evergreen High School’s teams finished in the top 5. Logan Schnur, Michael Jenkins, Jamie Morton, Blake Kuzava’s team took 2nd Place! Well done Fellas!

Last school year, parent Cory Gilchrist spearheaded the formation of the EHS Investment Club. This year the club has worked with Steve and his Economics classes to integrate and further opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills gained to real world investment scenarios. The club has grown this year to over 25 “junior brokers.” No doubt the success of our teams this year is an outcome of this community partnership. Thanks to Steve and Cory for their dedication and hard work. Let’s keep it up!

Spring Snow Storm - I have heard from many in our community today regarding the snow storm and concerns about road and driving conditions for our students. I share your concerns, and while we are not able to make school-level decisions regarding snow days, please know that whenever conditions like this arise, arriving to school safely is more important than arriving on time. Your child will not be penalized for tardiness when road conditions are impacted by weather. Your child’s safety is our single most important responsibility. Thank you for your understanding, and if you have further questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. In the future, I will ensure this message is communicated and reiterated before the snow starts falling.

    Thank you,

    Brandon Brekke

    Teacher Highlight

This week's Teacher Highlight goes to a group of first time teachers. Mr. Jesse and Ms. Chaykowski went to visit the Evergreen High School students who served as counselors for our 6th graders at Mt. Evans Outdoor Lab. The staff and 6th grade teachers at Mt. Evans were incredibly complimentary of this group of high school students. Mr. Epp, the Principal, told us that they were one of the most engaged, reflective groups of counselors he has worked with all year. The students did everything from teaching archery to astronomy. Way to go Cougars!

Happy Friday, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day Cougar Families,

See below for some important announcements and information:

Asking for Parent Support – Given our limited local options for food for students at lunchtime, the fact that we are a closed campus for 9th and 10th grade, and the lack of sufficient “hangout” space our building provides for students during free time, lunchtime at EHS is both very busy and very packed. Students are spread throughout the common areas and Main St. eating lunch and spending time with friends. Unfortunately, after lunch concludes and students head back to class, the empty hallways are left littered with trash – wrappers, bottles, food, etc. Despite pleas by our staff for students to simply use the trash and recycling bins we provide throughout these areas, the level of disregard and disrespect for our facilities has become unacceptable. I am asking that you take a few minutes to speak with your child about being respectful of our building. Please remind them to throw away trash in the proper place. We have a collective responsibility to take care of our “house” and school facilities and keep our school looking as neat and tidy as possible. Thank you for your support! Mr. Brekke.

Into the Woods – I had the pleasure of attending opening night last night, and wow! – what an incredible production! Scott Ogle, Kirsten Carpenter, Wiley Cruse  and crew have done an amazing job. Shows continue tonight and tomorrow. Bring the whole family and enjoy an awesome theater experience! Mr. Brekke.

Friday 7pm, Saturday 2 & 7pm. Get tickets now at: evergreenhstheatre.ticketleap.com - Clickto Download Promo Trailer!

State Titles – This morning we held a school-wide assembly to celebrate our Girls State Basketball Championship! The first State basketball title in EHS history. Well done ladies! We also celebrated another state team title – you guessed it - our co-ed Badminton team! Way to go Coach Mintle! We also congratulated our Ski Team for their awesome accomplishments this season. We are so fortunate to have the programs and community support for athletics we do. Thanks to all involved!

Seniors and Parents – The contract for graduation is on the website under graduation information.  Please read carefully and sign. Also, there are still graduation announcements in the Main Office.  If you ordered announcements and haven’t picked them up, please see Ms. Margi in the Main Office.

    Teacher Highlight

EHS has the pleasure of welcoming a new SRO (School Resource Officer) to our community this year, Mr. Kyle Smith. Kyle has been a Jeffco Sheriff’s Deputy for 22 years! He spent the first 5 years in detentions the next 17 on patrol. We are lucky to have a member of law enforcement with such experience keeping our kids safe and providing a positive and supportive presence. He has fit in extremely well with our school faculty, thanks in part to regularly bringing in delicious breakfast burritos for the front office. His big smile and big heart have something to do with that as well. Welcome Kyle and looking forward to a great partnership!

    Have a great weekend,
