School Closure Information

When the snow flies or rain falls, Jeffco may close schools to keep students and staff safe.  Jeffco families and staff are notified via SchoolMessenger, a voice message to parents’ phone, email, or text message.  You determine how you get messages by setting up notifications in JeffcoConnect.  The district will place information on its hotline at 303-982-6600, on its website at www.jeffcopublicschools.org, on Facebook and Twitter. The local news channels are also alerted so they may broadcast school closures.  Watch this video in Windows or QuickTime to see how Jeffco arrives at the decision to close schools.

Jeffco 2020 Vision

Jeffco Public Schools has a long tradition of quality education.  This tradition provides the foundation for which to carry out strategic work in order to ensure a fully prepared high school graduate. The Jeffco 2020 Vision defines the characteristics of a successful graduate for 2020 and beyond.  The Jeffco 2020 Strategic Plan sets priorities for the district in order to provide all students from Pre-K to 12th grade the educational experiences necessary to make progress toward the Jeffco 2020 Vision.

Watch Dog Dad Program

Who are WatchDOGS (Dads Of Great Students)?

WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. ® school. During the day, WatchDOGS may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. Many school principals have reported that the mere presence of a WatchDOG dramatically reduces reports of bullying. On the day of their participation, WatchDOGS are given a brief review of their involvement and they wear an official WATCH D.O.G.S. ® t-shirt with a disposable ‘Dog Tag’ identifying them as WatchDOGS.
