Career Technical Education: Exploratory Culinary Arts

Connect Cafe is a teaching classroom kitchen and serves as one of three Career Technical Education rotations. We seek to encourage exploration of food source, the people involved with the 'story of our food' and the art & science of both nutrition and cooking.

Our class is divided into three major components: knowledge (using cross-curricular authentic learning), culinary skill acquisition and work place experiences. We visit and help out at goat dairies, community gardens, tour candy & tea factories and professional kitchens to enhance our understanding of food production, service, industry & hospitality.

In the fall, we embrace the 'farm to table' ethic with its emphasis on choosing fresh and locally grown foods. In the spring, we explore the world of food and culture using the guiding principal that 'food is our common language'.
