Thespian Society

Carmody Middle School is home to Junior Thespian Troupe #89358, a part of the International Thespian Society.  The International Thespian Society (ITS), founded in 1929, is an honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre students located at more than 4,600 affiliated secondary schools across America and abroad. The mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theatre arts.

Carmody Middle School chartered our Junior Thespian Society in the spring of 2016 and since then, we have inducted 65 students in our chapter. When our members start high school, they enter with 1 Thespian point (for induction) or 2 Thespian points (for honors) towards the 8 points they need for high school Thespian induction.

At Carmody, we earn points in the following ways:

Technical Crew:
  • 1 point for every 10 hours worked after school
  • points also awarded for Stage Crew, Costume Crew, Props Crew, Videography Crew, Lights, Sound and House Crew
  • 3 points for an ensemble role
  • 4 points for a featured role
  • 5 points for a lead role
  • Occasionally, an additional point will be awarded for an above-and-beyond role
Additional Points:
  • Attending Jeffco’s Middle School Theatre Festival or spring Improv Fest will earn 1 point (each)
  • Being on Thespian Board (elected position) can earn up to 1 point - these students take on extra responsibilities
  • Participation in an outside theatre production or camp/class can earn 1 point (max) - student must bring proof; up to the discretion of Troupe Director
