Arvada West Instrumental Music Boosters

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~ Berthold Auerbach

The goal of the Arvada West Instrumental Department is to offer every instrumental student the opportunity to participate, improve their skills, and to create a lifelong enjoyment of music.

History of the Arvada West Instrumental Music Boosters

Prior to 2007, this organization was called Arvada West Band Boosters.  With the growth of other ensembles, the name was changed to the current Arvada West Instrumental  Boosters (AWIMB) to applaud ALL students who play an instrument or swing a flag. The AWIMB is a non-profit organization which provides financial support to the Arvada West Instrumental Department.  With academic budget cuts all across the country, this financial assistance is a must.

Support the AWIMB Provides

Many think the AWIMB is primarily in existence for the A-West Marching Band.  That is no longer true.  With the name change came the support for the orchestras, color guard, and those who are involved in other ensembles.  Here are some examples of how the AWIMB supports different groups.

(Note:  Instructors are hired to support each group as indicated.  They are not the A-West Instrument Teacher.)

·   The Orchestras:  Professional String Instruction during class time, Partial Payment of Student Fees as well Coaches, Guest Artists, Festivals

·   Fall and Winter Color Guard:  Instructor(s), Silks, Paint, Materials and Entry Fees

·   Jazz Band:  Greeley Jazz Festival and Swing Dance

·   Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble:  Guest Artists, Festivals

·   Percussion:  Instructor, Music, and Equipment

Some recent purchases include drum harness equipment, instruments, and new Marching Band Uniforms in 2010. In the spring of 2011, we helped Mr. Melhorn purchase $18,000 worth of instruments and equipment! AWIMB Fundraising

BINGO is by far the largest fundraiser for the AWIMB organization.  Every Saturday during the school and summer months, the boosters hosts two sessions of BINGO.  For more detailed information about  The Bingo Company   Click on "Arvada" and then "Sessions".  This is a smoke/alcohol free environment were you can meet lots of great people in the A-West community.  Working BINGO provides students (14 years and up) the opportunity to learn life skills such as working with the public, handling of money, and positive work ethics.  BINGO also is a way to earn community service hours for such things as NHS and provides a way to earn points toward lettering in music.  This fundraiser requires the support and participation of all instrumental students and parents/guardians to make it a success.  Training will be provided.  Be sure the Instrumental Teacher has your contact information.

Student Accounts

Each student who earns money on an individual basis (see below) will automatically have funds placed in their student accounts.  These funds may be used to purchase items related to music.  A few examples are:  music lessons, instruments, repairs, supplies, trips, marching band fees, color guard fees, and instrumental participation in extra-curricular ensembles.  This program will ease the financial burden for every family involved.

Ways to Earn Funds for Your Student Account

  1. King Sooper and Safeway gift cards are available for purchase at face value.  For every $25 purchased, $1 is automatically placed in the Student Account.  Not only can these gift cards be used for buying your weekly groceries, but they can also be used as gifts and the purchase of gas at participating gas stations.  If you buy $300 in groceries every week, your student will earn $12 if you've paid for your groceries with a gift card.  That makes $624 in a year!

  2. Other fundraisers are also available throughout the year such as Peech Sale, Mattress Sale, and Butterbraids.
