Executive Committee

President: Mike Campbell 

     A native of Colorado, he was raised in Arvada. After attending Drake Junior High he went on to graduate from Arvada West in 1966.        He and his wife Marji have a daughter who is a Professor of European History at the University of North Dakota and a son who is a          Professor of Theater Arts at the University of Wisconsin, Sheybogan. Mike was a social studies teacher for twenty-five years and a          public school administrator for sixteen years, the last eleven as a high school Principal. He currently is an Affiliate Faculty at Regis          University and serves as an officer on two other non-profit organizations.


Vice President: Katie Groke Ellis

Katie Groke Ellis is the current Director of Communications and Marketing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado and is the former National Program Manager at The White House Project.  She has a background in recruiting and training women to run for office, running ballot initiative campaigns and grassroots organizing.  A graduate of the University of Wyoming where she played on a soccer scholarship, Katie has worked with the NCAA, Choice USA, Springboard Enterprises and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. Katie also has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. Katie also sits on the Board of Directors for the Women's Lobby of Colorado.  A Colorado native, Katie graduated from Arvada West in 1999.

Treasurer: Ralph W. (Bill) Ashton

Bill Ashton is not only a Colorado native, but an Arvada native, Arvada High School class of 1947, University of Colorado BA 1951, MA and MBS 1958.  Bill is currently retired having taught chemistry at Arvada West from 1963 -1986. He volunteered at the Jeffco Credit Union Board 1970-1990, Chairman 1986-90; Arvada Rotary Club 1947-2000, officer and president 1983-84; U S Army 1953-55; Arvada Historical Society Board 1994-2006, President 1995-97 and treasurer 1998-2005.  Family:  wife Phyllis, daughter Tammy AW class of 1978, Vicki class of 1981, grandchildren Ashton, Eric, Tori and Dawn.

Secretary: Tammy Ashton Yonkie

Tammy Yonkie graduated from AWHS in 1978, attended CSU from 1978-1981, earned a BA from UNC in Elementary Education. Tammy taught 6th/7th grade at Fort Morgan Middle School, 1987-2001. Tammy purchased an awards and recognition business in 2001 and currently works from home. She served 4 years on the PTSA board, secretary and treasurer, at Van Arsdale Elementary, is coordinator for the Van Arsdale and Arvada West/Ralston Valley area spelling bee, volunteers many hours in the classroom, and spends countless hours attending soccer and basketball practices and games. Family: husband, Dave and daughter, Dawn.

Derek Everett

Derek R. Everett is a Colorado native, born in Denver and graduated from Arvada West in 1998, where he was a member of the Humanities program and yearbook editor  He and his wife Heather have a daughter, Louisa, born in 2011.  Derek holds a B.A. from Western State College of Colorado, an M.A. from Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas.  He teaches in the history departments of Metropolitan State University of Denver and Colorado State University, emphasizing Colorado, the western United States, and American history in general.  Derek's first book, The Colorado State Capitol: History, Politics, Preservation, was published in 2005, and his second book, Creating the American West: Boundaries and Borderlands, came out in 2014.


Cliff Jurgens

A third generation CO native and 2nd generation Arvada native, Cliff graduated AWHS in 1984. During his senior year in high school and post HS, he completed the Graphic Design program at Warren Technical Occupational Center and his AAS degree at Red Rocks CC. Cliff earned an Undergraduate and a Masters Degree in Business, and he has worked for small and large corporations in Sales and Marketing throughout his career.  In addition to holding various leadership positions, he helps his family run C2C Design Solutions, a management consulting and interior design soft goods production company.  Cliff has served on many boards and he has volunteered in many areas including, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,  PTSO, CMRA, APAC, AWHS Reunion Committee, RVHS Cross Country, AWHS Cross Country, and the AWHS Foundation. Memory Lamfers

Memory is a second generation native of Colorado and moved to Arvada in 1955. She graduated from Arvada West in 1968, UNC with a BA in 1972, and UNC with a MA in 1976. She taught in Jefferson County Schools for 34 years, with her love being First Grade. As a career educator, her proudest achievement was being recognized with the Colorado Award, Distinguished Teacher in the Golden articulation area. Memory is a Dahn Yoga instructor and teaches classes throughout the week. She mentors and teaches in the Making Choices Program which partners professional women with incarcerated women at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility. Memory presently teaches in the prison and is mentoring a woman in re-entry. The program fosters the development of life-planning and decision making skills. She has served in various officer positions and on the Board of the Arvada Historical Society to which she is a member. Memory is a Resting Elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church and serves as a Christian Education consultant and Bible School teacher. She will be part of a team that will return to Nepal this year where she will teach village teachers and lead parenting classes for indigenous people who have become new Christian believers through YWAM church planting. She is the Immediate Past President of Pi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for Key Women Educators and serves as a member of the Omega State ByLaws and Standing Rules Committee. She believes in the importance of giving back to her community and is honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the Arvada West High School Foundation. Email: memzlady@gmail.com
