Supply List


The following is a checklist of supplies you will need to purchase for instrumental music:

Please make sure you have these things before instrumental music class begins.  It is important to keep the instrument in working condition with proper handling, maintenance and care.  PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING!


STRINGS: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass

  • Measures of Success, Book 1

  • Rosin

  • Soft cloth (you can buy this, or use part of an old soft t-shirt)

  • Shoulder Rest for Violin and Viola—molded sponges are acceptable

  • Endpin strap "rock stop" for Cello

  • Folding music stand—for use at home and for concerts.


BRASS—Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone, Tuba

  • Essential Elements 2000, book 1

  • Valve oil and tuning slide grease (trumpets and baritones)

  • Trombones only: Slide cream and a small squirt bottle with water.

  • Folding music stand

WOODWINDS—Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone

  • Essential Elements 2000, Book 1

  • Flutes: cleaning rod (should be provided with instrument) and soft cleaning cloth

  • Folding music stand—for use at home and for concerts

  • Reed instruments: Saxophone and Clarinet

  • At least 2 working reeds at all times!  

  • Reed guard

  • Cork grease (used sparingly)

  • Swab (silk is best but cotton and felt work too)

PERCUSSION (drums and xylophone)

  • Folding music stand

  • Percussion kit: snare drum, bell set, and practice pad, with drum sticks and mallets
