Chouteau Island Cleanup

Each fall Burroughs volunteers join the Army Corps of Engineers on the fishing pier beach of the Mississippi River on Chouteau Island under the Chain of Rocks Bridge. There we spend 3 or so hours cleaning up trash and debris left by visitors and rising water. We end the activity with a picnic on the historic Chain of Rocks Bridge. When active flooding makes the Chouteau Island site unsafe, the activity shifts to Forest Park where participants help with cleanup and basic gardening and landscaping.
Students in grades 7-12 may participate.
