In Maths, Year 5 have been continuing to develop their knowledge of decimals and rounding numbers. They have practised applying these skills in different contexts to improve accuracy and confidence in their calculations.
In Science, the children have been learning about air and water resistance. They have explored how these forces affect movement and investigated ways to reduce or increase resistance through practical experi-ments.
In DT, the children have been developing their sewing skills using appliqué and embroi-dery. We have learned different stitching techniques to create fabric designs, focus-ing on accuracy and creativity in their work.
Year 5 have been learning about persuasive writing in the form of letters. We have practised structuring arguments clearly, using emotive language and evidence to support their points. We have written letters on a range of topics, aiming to convince their audience with strong reasoning and persuasive techniques.
In Geography, Year 5 have been com-paring Tokyo and Kyoto, exploring their differences in history, culture, and city structure. We have also stud-ied the significance of the Indus and Ganges Rivers in India, learning how these waterways have influenced settlements, agri-culture, and daily life.
In History, Year 5 have been learning about how the Vikings were impacted by Aethelflaed’s rule. We have explored how her leadership affected Viking settlements and daily life, considering how changes in power influenced trade, security, and community life.
