Year 4 have been converting mixed numbers and improper fractions in Maths using their times table knowledge to assist in dividing. They have explored equivalent fractions and are becoming confident in add-ing fractions.
In Science we completed our topic of sound by investigating how sound is produced in various instruments, including our own voice. The children enjoyed demonstrating the human larynx using a balloon!
We completed our Geography topic on earthquakes learning about the Richter Scale. The children were relieved to discover that the UK earthquakes are of a very low magnitude, so low we rarely even know they are happening! We watched a clip of the resulting Tsunami af-ter the major earthquake in the Indian Ocean in December 2004. The children were stunned by the power of the massive wave and the devastation it caused.
Our journey with the Romans in Britain culminated with facts on the historic town of Bath as well as Hadrian’s wall, built by Emperor Hadrian to protect the Roman Empire's territory in Britain from potential raids and invasions from the tribes living north of the wall, particularly the Picts.
The Roman soldiers built the 73-mile-long wall over approximately 6 years, with forts at regular intervals for maximum defence.
In English, the children wrote encapsulating newspaper re-ports on the death of Queen Victoria and incredible instructions on how to plant a bulb.
In Art, year 4 have produced clever collages inspired by the flora of a rainforest, using the frottage technique to create a variety of effects.
Have a wonderful Easter break!
