Year 3 have had a wonderful end to this term. With plenty of investigations, dressing-up days and creativ-ity - we have all had a blast!
In DT, the class used their technical skills to create levers and linkages within pop-up cards. The children carefully placed split-pins to ensure that their moving parts would have the right effect for their design.
It was amazing to see the creativity and problem-solving that came from this challenge and the out-comes were brilliant.
There was an abundance of creativity across other lessons as well, with equivalent fractions lines being made in Maths and paw-fect persuasive texts being published.
After an afternoon of researching Dog's Trust, the children were inspired to write about the work this charity carry out. They used their best Year 3 writing skills to include subordinate clauses, expanded noun phrases and precise punctuation in their work. The results were fantastic and are on their way to the Dog's Trust offices in Shoreham to help with their fundraising.
Taking advantage of the good weather, Year 3 have been taking their learning out-side. As we have been studying 'light and dark' in our Science lessons, these sunny days gave us a great opportunity to investigate how shadows of inanimate objects appear to move throughout the day.
The children used their skills to create sturdy structures that were able to with-stand a whole day on the playground and carefully added height to their con-structions in order to achieve the biggest, most interesting shadows.
We observed and recorded the shadows at different points throughout the day, discovering that the move-ment of the Earth causes the sun to appear to move in the sky. This meant that the shadows of the ob-jects moved every few hours. It was an excellent day of hands-on learning!
We hope that everyone at home has a lovely break planned with plenty of rest and relaxation. See you in the new term!
