Term 4 flew by in Year 1, we've learnt so much and we can really notice a difference.
In English we've been reading The Three Little Pigs. We talked about the story and or-dered it, we've written sentences for each picture and tried to include an adjective and a contraction- which isn't always easy but it was for Year 1! We've started writing a plan for a letter of apology from the Wolf. We came up with some really lovely ways to open a letter of apology and write the first part explaining why the Wolf tried to blow down the houses.
In Maths we've been looking at length and height, measuring and comparing using practical activities. We've looked at non standard units of measure, using paperclips, counters and cubes to measure items from around the classroom, we noticed that if we used different items to measure, the measurement came out different each time.
In Geography we've discovered all about the counties , labelled them and compared different counties with population size, landscape features and attractions. We found this quite relevant as we were really good at talking about the areas around us and where we've been, so we had some context to help us understand what we're looking at.
In PE we are focusing on our Health and Fitness unit. We learnt about why it’s important to keep fit and healthy, not only through food but exercise too, the two go hand in hand. We set up circuit training and did 30 second short bursts of exercises in partners, one watched and timed whilst the other did the activity, then wrote down the number of times per-formed and then we swapped. We then stopped to focus on our heart rates and the beats per minute before and after exercise.
Sublime Science came for a visit which was very exciting, he talked all about different scientists and what they discovered. We then had a session in the hall where we used gravity and skills to balance a spinning plate on a stick, juggle three balls in the air, walk on stilts, use a diablo and try the first step of flame throwing (without the flames). We thoroughly enjoyed our dress-up day. We had Joy Adamson, David Bowie, various scientists, Steve Irwin and a real life hero in our classroom for the day. We listened to some really lovely facts about all these amazing people too, which was really inspirational . We hope one day we can live up to these great standards and make a difference too!
What a busy term, no wonder it has flown by! Year 1 you're brilliant!
