Mrs Pyke
Year 5 & Year 6 - Swimming on Fridays!
Mrs Pyke
This term has flown by! Reception have continued to learn about "People Who Help Us". The children wrote a full page about what they know about the police. They enjoyed arresting their friends and taking their finger prints.
The story "The Zoo Vet" has helped them to learn days of the week and they have also completed some wonderful writing around this story. Their early writing is showing a great understanding of their phonics learning and they are beginning to write neatly with beautifully formed letters.
Everyone loved our dress up days, we've had rainbow out-fits for red nose day and some fantastic scientist out-fits.
The Supertato story we have been reading inspired us to get outside and do some super sports activities. The superhero capes obviously made them faster and stronger!
In maths we have been delving into 2D and 3D shapes. The children have enjoyed shape hunts, recognising and printing 2D shapes found within a 3D mod-el. Number bonds to 10 are coming along nicely as well as their early addition understanding. The nice weather has allowed us to practise finding doubles and number bonds outside with playground activities.
We've had many visitors to our school this term and we have been so impressed with the children’s sensible behaviour and how they've conducted themselves as amazing Jarvis Brook students. This has been mirrored in our learning around the school. Reception have been on "signs of spring" hunts, walked around the school to talk about how it may have looked 30 years ago and followed a school map to find out where and who are the people that help us in school. We extended this with the children drawing every member of staff which was great fun for the children (and adults!)
In PHSE our area of learning is "Healthy Me". The children experimented with how soap fights germs and all the steps involved in washing our hands. We hope the children have a well-earned break and that their Easter is filled with lots of fun activities. We look forward to seeing them again
